Scott Prendergast, USA, 2007, 86 min
Kabluey is weird and wonderful, at once an antiwar film, a family comedy and a kind of superhero flick written, directed by and starring Scott Prendergast. The down-on-his luck broke brother of an American soldier stop-lossed in Iraq moves in with his sister-in-law (Lisa Kudrow) and her two terribly behaved kids, in part to help out and in part to save on rent. To support himself, he resigns himself to taking a job that requires him to stand on the side of a road wearing a humiliating and somewhat otherworldly blue costume. This assured feature debut is an at times hilarious and at times sad, but always human look at contemporary America.
