Each spring the Film Society presents the San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF), a showcase for approximately 200 new features, documentaries and shorts dedicated to highlighting current trends in international film and video production with an emphasis on work that has not yet secured U.S. distribution.

Working under the supervision of the Publicity Manager, learn how the Film Society’s Publicity Department operates by assisting in, preparing for and executing publicity campaigns for SFIFF56 and other year-round Film Society programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct research into special interest media outlets
  • Contact press to initiate contact and pitch coverage
  • Gather and organize materials for film programs such as images, press kits, and synopses
  • Provide press materials to media contacts and facilitate interviews
  • Maintain video library including labeling and logging DVDs and checking them out to press and staff
  • Enter and update data (mailing lists, contact info, etc.) in institutional databases
  • Organize, track and process press clippings and assist with ongoing clippings archive project
  • Develop and draft press releases and press kits
  • Provide onsite event support at festival venues, including screenings, receptions and special events
  • Assist with miscellaneous projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Flexible, energetic, detail-oriented team players
  • Good organizational skills
  • A passion for cinema
  • Macintosh experience helpful, especially FileMaker Pro, Photoshop, Microsoft Office and image scanning
  • Good writing and telephone skills essential.
  • Knowledge of a second language is a plus.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
  • Commitment of a minimum of 8 hours per week (preferably over two days) for a minimum of 3 months
  • Onboarding meeting with supervisor to discuss goals
  • Thirty-day evaluation
  • Two blog posts for sffs.org
  • Participation in at least two SFFS professional development classes or events
  • 1-2 page internship wrap report
  • Exit interview with supervisor
