The Colleges & Universities program was created to support and encourage students as they prepare to transition from the academic arena to the professional world. Offering an array of creative, educational, social, financial and professional opportunities, it is a valuable bridge that connects and engages students with the Film Society and the Bay Area filmmaking community. Current offerings are listed below.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Full-tuition scholarships are offered each semester to several of our SFFS Film Craft & Film Studies classes. This is a great opportunity for students to enhance their current coursework and expand their learning experiences in the local film community—for free. Film students attending any two- or four-year college or university in the Bay Area are eligible.

INTERNSHIPS
Students with a common passion for and interest in film come from around the Bay Area and even abroad to work as interns at the Film Society both year-round and for the annual San Francisco International Film Festival. Internships are a great opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience and training in administration, production, marketing, media education, publicity, programming, and more. Internships are unpaid, but benefits may include: class credit; complimentary SFFS membership; free Filmmaker Education classes; free film screenings and events; and real-world, resume-building work experience.

GOLDEN GATE AWARDS PRE-SCREENING
From September to January, select Bay Area film students are invited to participate in the pre-screening process for the San Francisco International Film Festival’s annual Golden Gate Awards Competition. Pre-screeners will have the opportunity to review documentary and narrative short films submitted to the Festival and make critical recommendations to Festival programmers. Additional benefits include SFFS membership and complimentary tickets to Festival screenings.

SFIFF COLLEGE DAYS
During the annual San Francisco International Film Festival, Bay Area college students will have the opportunity to attend a of specially curated weekend series of five Festival films, with filmmaker guests and a guest lecturer in attendance. Course credit may be available, depending on your school’s participation.

SFFS SPEAKERS BUREAU
With a full suite of Filmmaker Services and SFFS Education classes, the Film Society offers an abundance of resources and opportunities for film students as they prepare to launch their artistic careers. SFFS staff members are available to provide orientation lectures and presentations to Bay Area film classes and departments that explain each of these programs and offer information on various topics, including: filmmaking as a career, fundraising, strategic planning, fiscal sponsorship, grants, residencies and film festival strategies.
