Themes and causes identified within the last five years of Film Society programming and activity are listed to the right. Browse each topic to discover related films exhibited by the Film Society over the last five years—at the San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF),  Youth Education events,  SFFS Screen and other SFFS presentations—as well as current cause-related projects in our Fiscal Sponsorship program.

ASSESSING IMPACTS

Methods of assessing the impacts of creative media are ever evolving, and the Film Society strives to be both current and innovative. In the Cause pages to the right, you will see audience attendance numbers, the film’s website link where available, and co-presenters and their websites (when co-presentations took place). As suggested by The Fledgling Fund in their 2008 paper “Assessing Creative Media’s Social Impact,” the Film Society will continue thinking beyond box office success and quantitative measurements and using a range of data to assess impact and set realistic expectations.

INCREASING IMPACTS
Filmmakers that hope to do more than simply expose issues have begun to develop sophisticated audience engagement and outreach campaigns to help link their growing audiences with activist groups who have concrete social change agendas and existing networks ready to respond to the call to action.
