At first glance, Renata is a bubbly free spirit who unexpectedly finds herself back in her native San Francisco after fleeing for reasons unknown. As she flits through the city reconnecting with old friends, it becomes apparent that she is a complex woman who has difficulty coping with the vagaries of life. Things start to brighten when she meets Val, who briefly provides emotional succor. This impressive film debut by Bay Area curator/writer Joshua Moore has a loose, spontaneous quality that recalls the work of John Cassavetes. Featuring a mesmerizing performance by Alexandra Clayton with original songs written and performed by her, I Think It’s Raining expertly portrays a young woman at odds with who she once was and who she will become.
