From China to Sudan, North Korea to Liberia, even California to New York, the rights of individuals and, in many cases, whole populations, are continually at risk. Many courageous filmmakers are working to expose and explore the often unjust and inequitable use of power by governments and authority figures around the world—and around the country—and to demonstrate the many economic, political, social and global consequences that follow. Their films serve as both a meaningful and an accessible resource that helps students gain a more complete understanding of these important and complex issues.

In addition to screenings of the films, this compelling new series provides students and teachers with the opportunity to engage in post-screening discussions with filmmakers, scholars and even victims of human rights abuses. Teachers will also be provided with study guides to help prepare students in advance and provide follow-up questions, activities and resources to help integrate each film’s content into their classroom.

All of our programs are designed to be interactive experiences rather than passive viewings, so students are expected to come prepared to ask questions of filmmakers and special guests and to participate in post-film discussions and Q&A.

New events will be posted here as they are scheduled, so check back regularly. Or sign up now to receive our email updates and be notified automatically. Email kzwolfer@sffs.org and ask to be added to our teacher mailing list.
